COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Toledo Mud Hens extended their win streak to five games by sweeping a doubleheader against the Columbus Clippers on Saturday night (April 22) at Huntington Park. The Mud Hens won the first game by a score of 4-0, and won the second game, 7-3.
Game One:
In the first game of the day, Zach Logue (1-0) took the mound for the Mud Hens while Konnor Pilkington (0-2) got the start for the Clippers.
After a scoreless first inning, Jonathan Davis reached on a walk in the top of the second and promptly stole second base. Brendon Davis’s line drive scored Jonathan Davis to give the Mud Hens an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Clippers threatened with a walk and a double that put runners on second and third with two outs. However, Logue forced a flyout to end the inning and maintain Toledo’s one-run lead.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third inning before the Clippers earned another scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth. Logue walked three batters to load the bases before being replaced by Matt Wisler with two outs. Wisler faced Richie Palacios, who hit a ground ball that looked like a sure game-tying hit before John Valente made a diving play to get the out at first and keep the Mud Hens ahead, 1-0.
In the top of the sixth, Ryan Kreidler hit a solo home run to deep left field off Luis Oviedo to extend the lead to 2-0.
After Miguel Diaz replaced Wisler and set down the Clippers batters in order, Zack Short hit a two-run home run to give the Mud Hens a four-run lead. Later in the inning, Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, although he was left on base when a groundout by Donny Sands retired the side.
Diaz closed the game with another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh, securing the Mud Hens first shutout of the season and earning a save in the process, his fourth of the season. Wisler (1-0) earned the win for the Mud Hens while Pilkington took the loss for the Clippers.

After a scoreless third inning, Kreidler started the top of the fourth with a leadoff walk against Clippers pitcher Jason Bilous. Jonathan Davis then drove him home with a two-run home run to reclaim a 4-3 lead for the Mud Hens.

The Clippers threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth after Kervin Castro replaced White. A pair of singles and a wild pitch put runners on second and third for the Clippers with two outs, with the leading run at the plate.
