Myrtle Beach (34-25) starter Ryan Kellogg (3-3) allowed just two hits over six shutout innings to earn the win. The bullpen tandem of Pedro Araujo and Jordan Minch teamed up to toss two scoreless frames before giving way to Pelicans closer Dillion Maples. The right-hander struck out one and did not allow a base run in the ninth for his third save, sealing Myrtle Beach's sixth straight win and 11th in the last 14 games.

Daniel Spingola walked to begin a scoreless fourth against Buies Creek (32-27) starter Ryan Hartman (0-2). One batter later, Eloy Jiménez stroked an RBI double to right-center to give the Pelicans the 1-0 advantage.
