MISSOULA, MT - The Helena Brewers (7-6) scored double-digit runs for the second night as they defeated the Missoula Osprey (5-8) 11-1 on Saturday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The Brewers have now won six straight games, their longest winning streak since August 30, 2015.
After being held scoreless through the first four innings, the Brewers broke the seal in a big way in the fifth. Jose Gomez started the inning with a solo home run, his first home run of the season, to give Helena a 1-0 lead. Antonio Pinero followed with a bunt singled that rolled all the way down the line and stayed fair as it hit the third base bag. Nick Roscetti reached on a fielder's choice and both runners advanced on a throwing error by Osprey second baseman Keshawn Lynch. Dallas Carroll drove in both runners with a two-RBI single, pushing the Brewers lead to 3-0. Two batters later, Gabriel Garcia launched the second home run of the inning, a two-run blast that pushed the lead to 5-0.
Starter Nelson Hernandez (2-0) worked his way out of base runners in every inning, allowing just one run off seven hits while walking one and striking out one in five innings of work.
In the sixth, Helena added two more runs to their lead. Zach Clark led off the inning with a triple, the first triple of the season for the Brewers, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Antonio Pinero, extending the Brewers lead to 6-0. Roscetti then reached on a throwing error by third baseman Joey Rose and came all the way around to score, giving Helena a 7-1 lead.
The Brewers blew the game open in the seventh with another big hit from Gomez. A hit-by-pitch, single and walk loaded the bases, and Gomez sent a ball over the left field wall for a grand slam, his second home run of the night, to give Helena an 11-1 lead. Gomez finished the night 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored. Pinero, Garcia and Brent Diaz all finished the night with two hits.
Relievers Roberto Delgado, Braulio Ortiz and Parker Bean combined to pitch four innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits while not walking a batter and striking out one. On defense, the Brewers did not commit an error, extending their errorless streak to 50.1 innings.
The Brewers return to action Sunday evening against the Osprey at 5:15 PM. Helena sends RHP Michael Petersen (0-0, 1.69) to the mound against LHP Brady Muller (0-0, 10.61). The game can be heard locally on KCAP 95.9 FM/AM 950, TuneIn Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app.
