Newman and Kramer are the first set of teammates at both shortstop and second base on the IL Postseason All-Star team since Columbus' Brian Raabe (2B) and D'Angelo Jimenez (SS) accomplished the feat in 1999.
In his first full Triple-A season, Newman hit .302 with 74 runs scored and 28 stolen bases before having his contract purchased by Pittsburgh on August 16. He ranks among league leaders in batting (4th), runs scored (1st), stolen bases (1st), hits (5th) and doubles (T-4th). The 25-year-old is just the second shortstop in Indians franchise history to be elected to the IL Postseason All-Star team, joining Brian Bixler who was on the 2007 squad.
Kramer, 24, currently ranks in the top five of several offensive categories, including batting average (3rd, .303), hits (3rd, 137), doubles (2nd, 32), extra-base hits (3rd, 49), slugging percentage (3rd, .480), runs scored (T-4th, 70) and total bases (2nd, 217). He has belted a career- and team-high 14 home runs and leads the Indians with 43 multi-hit games. The Turlock, Calif. native is the first Indians second baseman to ever be named to the IL Postseason All-Star team.
This is the first postseason All-Star selection for both Newman and Kramer. Newman is a two-time midseason All-Star (2016, Florida State League; 2018, International League) while Kramer has one midseason All-Star honor to his credit (2017, Eastern League). Kramer was also named to the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars team in 2017.
Indianapolis is joined by Lehigh Valley as the only IL teams with multiple players named to the All-Star team. The IronPigs had four postseason All-Stars and had a clean sweep of the Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Pitcher, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards.
