Nolin Gets PCL Pitcher of the Week Nod for One-Hit Outing

TACOMA, WA - Tacoma Rainiers left-hander Sean Nolin was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for July 1-7 for pitching 7 1/3 one-hit innings in Tacoma's July 5 victory against the Grizzlies in Fresno, the PCL announced on Monday. This is the first time that Nolin has earned the award at the Triple-A level, winning once before with Advanced-A Dunedin when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 2012.
The 29-year-old allowed what was initially ruled a hit in the sixth inning in his start in Fresno, but the decision was changed to an error postgame. The lone hit that Nolin was charged with was then a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, officially breaking up the no-hitter in Tacoma's 8-1 victory.
This marks the second time that a Rainiers pitcher has earned the accolade this season. Lefty Tommy Milone earned the award for the week of April 29-May 5 when he made back-to-back scoreless appearances, going 14 2/3 shutout innings with 15 strikeouts.

Since signing with the Seattle Mariners on June 7, Nolin has made five appearances with the Rainiers. After a bullpen appearance on June 15, he's made four consecutive strong starts, going at least five innings and surrendering two or fewer runs each time out. Friday marked the San Jacinto College product's third consecutive quality start.
Nolin began the season in the Chicago White Sox organization and made four starts with Double-A Birmingham before being released on April 25. The Seaford, NY native then cruised to a 6-0 record with a 1.10 ERA in eight games with the independent Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League before having his contractual rights purchased by Seattle.
Nolin was a sixth round selection in the 2010 Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, who he debuted with in 2013. After spending the 2015 campaign with the Oakland Athletics organization, Nolin missed all of 2016 and 2017 with injuries while in the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies systems.
Sacramento River Cats infielder Zach Green was named the PCL Player of the Week for July 1-7.
