DURHAM, NC --- The Norfolk Tides (6-11) defeated the Durham Bulls (6-11), 5-2, on Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Ryan Noda (2) homered in the third inning to break the 0-0 tie. He would deliver again in the sixth inning with an RBI single to give the Tides a 3-2 lead. Noda later made a catch at the wall on defense that saved a potential three-run game-tying homer by Victor Mesa Jr. in the bottom of the ninth. The Tides would win 5-2.

Trey Gibson gave 5.0 strong innings, striking out six and allowing two runs on two hits, including a home run to Justyn-Henry Malloy. Keegan Akin struck out two in a scoreless frame in his first rehab appearance since hitting the 10-day injured list with a strained groin.

Tides’ hitters would combine for 12 hits, with four separate players getting multiple knocks. Norfolk and Durham will go again tomorrow at 12:05 PM from Durham Bulls Athletic Park, where Nestor German (0-1, 4.97 ERA) will get the start opposite Brody Hopkins (0-0, 1.93 ERA).
