Kyle Nowlin knocked home three runs for the Snappers as they overcame a three-error fourth inning and a late charge by Kane County in Friday's 7-6 victory. Zack Erwin picked up the win and allowed just one earned run over six innings in his third quality start of the year. The victory puts the Snappers at .500 for the first time since June 9 when they were 30-30.
Nowlin tied the game 1-1 on his 9th homer of the season off the video board in left field and evened the score 3-3 in the sixth on a two-run flare into right. Nowlin would score the go-ahead run all the way from first base on a double by Eric Mariñez, who committed two of the errors in the fourth, that snuck inside the line at third base and rattled into the left field corner. Kane County manager Butch Hobson was ejected for arguing the fair-foul call.
Erwin grinded through his six-innings with a season-high nine hits allowed while he struck out six Cougars. Jesus Zambrano surrendered a two-run, bases-loaded single by Raymel Flores in the eighth, but Yordys Alejo ended the Cougars rally on one pitch to induce an inning-ending double play. Alejo ended the ballgame with a double play after he allowed a one-out single for his seventh straight scoreless outing out of the Beloit bullpen.
Luke Persico homered for the fifth time this season to lead off the eighth inning and finished the game 2-for-4. Mike Martin also had a 2-for-4 game with the team's first hit of the game and a leadoff bunt single to start the five-run sixth. Beloit took 2-of-3 from the Cougars in Geneva as they complete their season series with Kane County. The Snappers are now 36-7 when they score at least five runs in a game.
