Nunez Tallies Two-Hits, Pelicans Throttled By RiverDogs 13-1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 31, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (12-22, 39-59) fell in game four of the Sonic Highway 17 showdown to the Charleston RiverDogs (20-14, 57-43) at Pelicans Ballpark on Friday night. The Pelicans now trail in the weeklong series 3-1.

Charleston started the scoring in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Brendan Summerhill cracked a three-run double to give the RiverDogs an early 3-0 advantage. The next batter Alberth Palma roped an RBI single to extend the Dogs lead to 4-0. After Palma stole second base, Dean Moss raked an RBI single to move the lead to 5-0.

Myrtle Beach responded in the bottom of the fourth. Alexis Hernandez lined a single and then moved to second on a groundout. Eli Lovich followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1.

The RiverDogs tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth, capped off by two RBI singles from J.D. Gonzalez and Slater de Brun, to take an 8-1 lead.

With the score 9-1 in the top of the ninth, the Dogs moved the lead to 13-1, capped off by a two-run home run from Ryan Cermak (2).

RHP Trendan Parish (4-1, 2.67) received the win for the RiverDogs. RHP Daniel Avitia (2-3, 4.41) was tagged with the loss for the Pelicans.

Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game homestand at Pelicans Ballpark on Saturday, August 1 against the Charleston RiverDogs (Single-A Tampa Bay Rays). First pitch is at 7:05 PM. RHP Noah Edders (0-4, 4.14) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. RHP Jacob Kuhn (1-0, 2.04) gets the start for the RiverDogs.
