Ryan McCarvel led off the second inning with a bang against TinCaps starter Mason Thompson. McCarvel clubbed his 11th home run of the season into the left field berm to give the Chiefs an early 1-0 advantage.

McCarvel and the Chiefs struck again in the third against Thompson. Nick Plummer led off with a double to right and Brian O'Keefe worked a two-out walk. McCarvel lofted a double to left field to clear the bases and extend Peoria's lead to 3-0.
In the fourth, Peoria extended their lead with Thompson still on the bump for Fort Wayne. Danny Hudzina walked with one out and went to second on an error by Thompson trying to pick him off at first. Nick Plummer struck a two-out single to right field, scoring Hudzina to give Peoria a 4-0 cushion.
The TinCaps cut the Chiefs lead in half against O'Reilly in the fifth. With two outs, Marcus Greene Jr. walked and Jack Suwinski belted a home run to left field to cut the Chiefs lead to 4-2. A.J. Kennedy extended the inning with a double to left, but O'Reilly got Fernando Tatis Jr. to pop out to end the inning.
Fort Wayne added another run in the seventh against O'Reilly. The righty recorded the first two outs of the inning, including his ninth strikeout of the night, before Greene Jr. homered to left field to pull the TinCaps within a run at 4-3. Suwinski singled in the next at-bat, but O'Reilly struck out Kennedy to tally 10 for the night and end the inning.
