Odom Sends One Deep, Rainiers Drop Three Gamer against Dodgers

Oklahoma City, OK- Catcher Joe Odom throttled his first Triple-A bomb, accounting for Tacoma's only run, but the Rainiers fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers and were swept in the three-game series on Friday, 9-2.
Odom, transferred from Double-A Arkansas pregame, lifted his first Tacoma (52-65) blast over the right field fence in the top of the fifth that put the Rainiers on the board, 8-1. The 27-year-old made six appearances with the Rainiers in 2018, collecting three hits and 10 strikeouts.
Right-hander Darren McCaughan (0-5) made his fifth start for Tacoma and took the loss when he was charged with eight Oklahoma City (55-61) runs across 2 2/3 innings, collecting four punchouts.

Ryan Garton took over on the mound with two outs in the bottom of the third and retired the first batter he faced to end the frame. The righty went 2 1/3 frames of scoreless baseball before handing the ball to Brian Ellington. The 29-year-old surrendered one run in the sixth inning.
Outfielder Jaycob Brugman doubled home John Andreoli that narrowed the deficit by a run in the top of the eighth. The lefty slugger has hit safely in 13 of his last 18 games, improving his average to .282, raking at a .318 clip over that span (21-for-66).
Matt Carasiti went two frames of scoreless baseball, collecting four strikeouts and closing the Tacoma pitching staff for the night.
The Rainiers will continue their road trip as they head to New Orleans to face the Baby Cakes, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, for the start of a four gamer on Saturday. Southpaw Anthony Misiewicz (6-6, 6.24) will take the hill for Tacoma as New Orleans roll out right-hander Nick Neidert (2-2, 5.87) for a 4:00 p.m. PDT start.
