ZEBULON, NC - Five different Wood Duck hitters had a multi-hit day, led by the four-hit effort by Chuck Leblanc in a 9-3 victory over the Mudcats. Six-of-nine starters scored a run as Andretty Cordero led the way with four driven in.
Down East jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to back-to-back two-run doubles by Leblanc and Cordero. The Woodies brought eight batters to the plate in the big first inning.

Christian Torres claimed his second win of the season with five innings and five strikeouts. The lefty contained both of the runs he allowed to only in the second inning.
Leblanc came back to the plate in the third and ripped an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left. His three RBI night matched a career-high and was the fourth time this season he collected three. The Canadian also takes the lead in the Carolina League with 26 on the season.
The Woodies used a two-out rally in the fourth to add on. Brendon Davis sparked it with a double and would score on a throwing error by catcher Mitch Ghelfi. Later, Cordero would add an RBI single to push the lead to 7-2.
Another two-out rally came in the sixth when Leblanc singled with two strikes and came in to score on Cordero's double to left-center. They wasted no time in the seventh when Blaine Prescott led off with a solo homer over the Jumbotron in left-center, his fourth of the season.
Cole Wiper came in after Torres was complete and did not allow an earned run in his three innings of relief - matching a season-high. He's currently on a streak of 9.2 innings without allowing an earned run. C.D. Pelham finished off the Mudcats with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Wood Ducks return home for a three-game series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Monday and Tuesday both begin at 7:00, while Wednesday is the final Education Day for the season with an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.
