Offense erupts in 9-4 win

Beloit, WI (June 16, 2018) - Every Clinton LumberKing starter either scored or drove in a run in a 9-4 win over the Beloit Snappers on Saturday night at Harry Pohlman Field. The win keeps the LumberKings (38-31) playoff hopes alive while snapping their longest losing streak of the season at five games.
Clinton raced out to an early lead against Snappers (32-36) starter Jared Poche. Louis Boyd collected the first of his three hits in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Costello.
Poche (2-5) would be chased from the game in the top of the second when the LumberKings offense exploded for six runs while sending 11 men to the plate in the inning. Billy Cooke drove home the first run of the rally with a sacrifice fly to left, Eugene Helder drove home two with a double to right center, and Costello had the biggest hit of the inning slugging a two-run home run to right center for his team leading tenth home run of the year.
The LumberKings tallied their final runs of the night in the top of the sixth. Boyd's third and final hit of the night started the two-run rally with Helder driving him in two batters later with a single. Joseph Rosa capped the rally with an RBI bunt single down the line at first.
The Snappers scored their first two runs of the night against LumberKings starter Ryne Inman. Beloit tagged Inman for a single run in the fourth and fifth innings. The righty did not qualify for the win after he was chased from the game with two out in the bottom of the fifth.
Adonis De La Cruz followed Inman out of the bullpen and earned his first win of the season for a 2.1 inning outing in which he allowed two runs, one earned, while walking none, and striking out two.
The Snappers tallied their final runs of the night with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. De La Cruz (1-2) allowed one out singles to Nick Allen and Mickey McDonald with both Snappers coming in to score.
Matt Clancy worked the final 2.1 innings for Clinton and induced a game ending double play ball from Austin Beck that snapped the LumberKings skid at five games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The LumberKings will meet the Beloit Snappers for the finale of their three-game series on Saturday night. Clinton will throw left-handed pitcher Nick Wells (4-4, 4.35) while Beloit will counter with righty Mitchell Jordan (2-0, 2.31). First pitch for game one is slated for 7:00 PM.
