Offense explodes early as Birds win back-to-back over P-Nats

Pelicans score all six runs in first three innings en route to 6-1 victory

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 1, 2018) - Early offense propelled the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 6-1 victory on Sunday over the Potomac Nationals from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. 
The Pelicans (37-44, 3-8) wasted no time in the first inning against Potomac (40-37, 3-7) starter Nick Raquet (1-1). After D.J. Wilson and Aramis Ademan ripped back-to-back singles to begin the inning, Jhonny Pereda lined a two-out RBI single down the first base line to put the Birds out in front 1-0. 

In the second inning, Ademan smacked a two-run base hit into right and Wilson later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Pelicans. 
Kevonte Mitchell smashed a two-RBI double in the third to give the Birds a 6-0 lead.
In the sixth, the Nationals found the scoreboard when Rhett Wiseman scored on a Nick Banks sacrifice fly. 
Ryan Kellogg (2-1) tossed three innings, surrendering just one run, to earn the win for the Pelicans. Casey Bloomquist finished off the night with 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. 
Pelicans RHP Tyson Miller (6-6, 3.71 ERA) is slated to start Monday's 7:05 p.m. game against Potomac RHP Joan Baez (3-6, 4.92 ERA) in the third contest of a four-game series against the Nationals.
