Offense Explodes to Sweep Blue Jays with 11-7 Win

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 13, 2017) - The Fort Myers Miracle (32-18) swept the Dunedin Blue Jays (28-22) with an 11-7 win on Sunday evening to claim their fifth straight win. Tanner English provided four hits, and Zander Wiel fell a home run shy of the cycle in the win.
Fort Myers tagged LHP Tayler Saucedo (L, 1-1) for five earned runs over five innings. Brent Rooker's RBI-double in the second inning tied the game at one, and the Miracle took the lead as Rooker scored on a Saucedo wild pitch. Two more runs came home in the fifth on an RBI-double from English and a Jermaine Palacios run-scoring single. Wiel's leadoff triple in the fifth was plated on yet another wild pitch.
Dunedin's Bo Bichette left the game in the fifth inning with an apparent ankle injury after turning his foot on the bag at first base.
The Miracle ripped five extra-base hits as Wiel and Nelson Molina each scored twice. English touched home three times, while Sean Miller and Palacios collected a pair of RBIs.
As Fort Myers led, RHP Brady Anderson (W, 6-7) kept the Jays at bay with five innings of one-run ball. Keaton Steele (H, 2) picked up the next three innings before we got to the ninth.
Down 11-2 to the ninth, Dunedin got the tying run to the plate with the first eight batters reaching base. RHP Tom Hackimer allowed back-to-back leadoff singles and walked four straight before RHP Alex Muren came in. After allowing two more runs to score to make it 11-7, Muren struck out Juan Kelly, induced a pop-up of Connor Panas and fanned Michael De La Cruz to end the game.
The Miracle begin a four-game series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers beginning on a Meat-Up Monday at 7:05 PM ET. LHP Lewis Thorpe takes the mound for Fort Myers against Lakeland's LHP Austin Sodders.
