Ohlman Makes MLB Debut

FREDERICK, MD - On Tuesday night former Keys catcher, Michael Ohlman, made his Major League debut with the Toronto Blue Jays. With the call-up, he becomes the 154th former Keys player to reach the Major Leagues. Ohlman joins Stefan Crichton as one of two ex-Keys to reach the big leagues in 2017.
After having his contract selected by Toronto on Monday, Ohlman was the Blue Jays catcher and nine-hole batter on Tuesday. He finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Signed by Toronto to a minor league contract in November 2016, Ohlman was batting .246 with seven home runs and 13 RBIs for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons before his promotion.

Originally drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2009 draft from Lakewood Ranch High School (FL), Ohlman played for the Keys in 2013. Named a postseason all-star, Ohlman won the Carolina League batting title that season, hitting .313 in 100 games to go with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs. The Floridian also paced the CL in slugging percentage (.524).
The Keys play the middle game of their series against the Down East Wood Ducks on Wednesday. Left-hander Keegan Akin (1-3, 6.26) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed by Wood Ducks lefty Jeffrey Springs (0-3, 4.70).
