ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express (7-8) dropped its series to the Oklahoma City Baseball Club (10-5), four games to two, after a 14-5 loss on Sunday afternoon at Dell Diamond.

Round Rock LHP Danny Duffy (0-1, 3.12) went home with the loss after allowing one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts during his 1.1-inning start. Oklahoma City LHP John Rooney (1-1, 2.35) got the win, tossing two shutout innings of relief that included three punchouts.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • Oklahoma City RF Andy Pages hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning before a bases-loaded walk scored CF Drew Avans in the third for a 2-0 lead.
  • The Baseball Club put up a big inning for the second straight game, scoring eight runs in the fifth. Batters worked two walks and hit two home runs, two doubles and two singles with no outs recorded to make it a 10-0 game.
  • Both teams put one run on the board during the sixth inning. In the top of the frame, Oklahoma City 3B Andre Lipcius hit a triple, then scored on a Chris Okey sacrifice fly. In the home half of the inning, Round Rock CF Elier Hernandez rounded the bases on a walk, passed ball, wild pitch and sacrifice fly from RF Trevor Hauver.
  • Oklahoma City kept things going at the plate when LF Ryan Ward launched a three-run home run in the seventh inning. The shot to left field made it a 14-1 contest.
  • The Express put two more runs on the board in the eighth inning as Hauver blasted his first home run of the season and brought DH Sam Huff, who had knocked a single, home with him.
  • Another two-run blast from Round Rock made it 14-5 in the ninth inning. C Matt Whatley hit a 427-foot longball to score 2B Jax Biggers, who had reached base on a walk. The next three batters were retired by Oklahoma City RHP Drew Pomeranz to hold the 14-5 score final.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Express RF Trevor Hauver and C Matt Whatley both notched their first home run of the season during Sunday’s contest. Both Dell Dingers were two-run shots and traveled over 400 feet, with Hauver’s traveling 419 feet and Whatley’s soaring 427 feet.
  • Round Rock RHP Bryan Chi made his Triple-A debut on Sunday and threw 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. The righty allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks and struck out Oklahoma City batters.
  • Reliever RHP Jesus Tinoco recorded the E-Train’s solo shutout outing on the bump. The righty threw one inning and tallied two strikeouts.

Next up: Round Rock hits the road for a six-game series in Sugar Land. Tuesday’s series opener at Constellation Field is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. CT and both starting pitchers have yet to be announced.
