Omaha Drops Series Final to Rochester 9-0

Toro’s 3-for-4 night, Velasquez 5.0 innings not enough for Storm Chasers

PAPILLION, NEB. – The Omaha Storm Chasers (24-25/57-66) dropped the series final 9-0 to the Rochester Red Wings (31-20/76-48) on Sunday night. Abraham Toro went 3-for-4 in the game while Vince Velasquez (1-1) worked 5.0 innings, but it wasn’t enough to power the Storm Chasers to a win. After a

PAPILLION, NEB. – The Omaha Storm Chasers (24-25/57-66) dropped the series final 9-0 to the Rochester Red Wings (31-20/76-48) on Sunday night. Abraham Toro went 3-for-4 in the game while Vince Velasquez (1-1) worked 5.0 innings, but it wasn’t enough to power the Storm Chasers to a win.

After a pair of scoreless frames to start the game, Velasquez allowed an RBI single and 2-run home run in the top of the 3rd inning to give the Red Wings a 3-0 lead.

Velasquez returned with a scoreless top of the 4th inning, then did the same in the 5th inning. Omaha’s starter went 5.0 innings and allowed 3 runs while striking out 6 batters. Ben Sears then took over for Velasquez and fired a hitless, scoreless top of the 6th inning.

The Red Wings added another 3 runs to their lead in the top of the 7th inning off Storm Chasers reliever Luke Little on a pair of run-scoring singles, extending the lead to 6-0.

Lucas Erceg worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 8th inning, but Easton McGee allowed a 3-run home run in the top of the 9th inning to make it a 9-0 game in favor of the Red Wings.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Storm Chasers went down in order to finish the 9-run shutout loss.

The Storm Chasers will have an off day on Monday as the team gets ready to take on the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines on Tuesday. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6:38 P.M. CT and Lucas Braun is scheduled to start for Omaha.
