Otto Shines Again For Somerset

Bridgewater, New Jersey- Glenn Otto (W, 6-3) became the first Double-A pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts this season as the Somerset Patriots (38-20) shut out the Erie SeaWolves (34-25) 5-0 in front of 6,005 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening. It was the tenth time that Somerset held an opponent scoreless this year.

Otto struck out eight and scattered four hits over seven stellar innings of work. He pitched with an early lead after a first inning Donny Sands’ two-run home run (10).

Michael Beltre stole home in the fourth inning to extend Somerset’s lead. It was his 14th stolen base of the season, good for second in the league.

Diego Castillo and Isiah Gilliam both added RBI doubles for the 5-0 final.

Kevin Gadea and Ron Marinaccio closed the game with a combined six strikeouts over three innings of relief. A.J Ladwig (L, 3-3) suffered the loss after he allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.

Somerset will conclude the series with Erie with a 1:05 pm game at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
