FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 15, 2017) - Jermaine Palacios capped a ninth inning comeback with a walk-off double for the Fort Myers Miracle (16-5) in the series opening game against the St. Lucie Mets (8-14). The 4-3 win for Fort Myers allows them to hold their firm lead on first place in the FSL South Division.
The Miracle grabbed an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second inning. Palacios' two-out single sparked a mini-rally that culminated in a Zander Wiel RBI-double. After a leadoff Nelson Molina two-bagger in the second, Sean Miller singled in the second run of the game. Miller, Palacios and Brandon Lopez all smacked three hits in the game.
Despite allowing a hit in every inning, starter RHP Nabil Crismatt blanked the Miracle for the rest of his start which lasted seven innings. RHP Cody Stashak cruised into the sixth inning having set down his last 13 batters. A leadoff walk preceded John Mora's game-tying two-run home run to right. Jhoan Urena then singled and advanced to second on a delayed steal. With two outs, Patrick Mazeika blooped a single past the shift in right field, scoring Urena and giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.
RHP Tom Hackimer, RHP Alex Muren and LHP Sam Clay (W, 7-0) each provided scoreless innings to give the Miracle a chance in the ninth. RHP Josh Torres (BS, L, 0-3) came out looking to record his fourth save against the top of the Fort Myers order.
After going down 0-2 in the count, Tanner English was hit by a pitch to out the tying run on base. English stole second, and a bad throw on the steal allowed him to nab third as well. Lopez then doubled to left-center to tie the game which set the scene for Palacios. The Miracle shortstop pelted a no doubt hit to right center to give Fort Myers their sixth walk-off win of the year.
RHP Sean Poppen takes the mound on Sunday at 4:05 PM ET for the Miracle against RHP Justin Dunn on a DQ Family FUNday Sunday.
