Patriots Bats Silenced In Saturday Night Loss

Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Somerset Patriots (58-42) were held to a season-low three hits in a 6-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks (62-38) before 5,575 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.

Somerset’s lone run came on a run-scoring double play groundout from Oswald Peraza in the bottom of the third.

New York Yankees No. 20/25 prospect Randy Vasquez (L, 0-1) worked 4.2 innings in his Patriots debut. He allowed six runs (two earned) and struck out six in his first start at the Double-A level.

Akron took an early lead on a Victor Nova RBI double. They added two runs in the third on an RBI double from Steven Kwan and an RBI single from Chris Roller. Three more RubberDucks runs were plated in the third on a Brayan Rocchio RBI triple and a pair of Patriots errors.

Konnor Pilkington (W, 2-0) allowed one run on two hits over five innings to earn the win. Patriots reliever Shawn Semple did not factor into the decision, but tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to top off the night.

Somerset concludes its six-game series against Akron Sunday night. First pitch at TD Bank Ballpark is set for 5:05 p.m.
