Patriots Bats Stay Hot Against Curve

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Somerset Patriots (42-27) defeated the Altoona Curve (37-30) 7-3 before 5,806 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

Isiah Gilliam continued to show off his power with a solo home run (6) in the third inning to get Somerset on the board. The long ball cut Altoona’s early lead in half after a Mason Martin double and Brendt Citta single put the visitors up 2-0 after the first inning.

Red-hot Jason Lopez singled in two runs to put the Patriots ahead in the fourth.

Martin singled in a run in the fifth inning to make it a one run game before Dermis Garcia got in on the action with a solo home run (16) in the sixth.

The last two runs came around on a Gilliam RBI groundout and a Max Burt run-scoring single in the eighth.

Zach Greene (W, 2-3) picked up the win with four strikeouts over 2.1 scoreless innings. Omar Cruz (L, 1-2) suffered the loss after he allowed four earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Addison Russ (S, 2) earned the save with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

The Patriots and the Curve continue the series on Saturday with a 7:05 pm game at TD Bank Ballpark.
