Bridgewater, NJ – Led by three home runs, the Somerset Patriots (10-9, 54-34) defeated the Reading Fightin Phils (11-8, 40-48) by a final score of 10–8 before 5,947 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

On an MLB rehab assignment, New York Yankees RHP Ron Marinaccio struck out the side with 12 pitches in his one inning of work, the top of the sixth.

“Shoulder’s feeling really good,” Marinaccio said after his appearance. “I felt really good with the changeup tonight. Overall I’m feeling healthy and pretty good.”

Aldrem Corridor immediately put the first run of the evening on the board on an RBI single that plated Jhailyn Ortiz in the top of the first.

The Patriots quickly evened the score in the bottom of the second after Mickey Gasper came home on a wild pitch.

Brandon Lockridge (8) hammered a two-run home run to left field to put Somerset ahead 3-1 in the next inning.

Reading later pulled back ahead in the top of the fourth as AJ Graffanino plated a run on a ground rule double and Simon Muzziotti lofted a two-run double to center to give the Fightin Phils a 4-3 lead.

Somerset responded in the bottom of the inning on an Anthony Volpe sacrifice fly and Elijah Dunham (13) two-run home run that gave the Patriots a 6-4 advantage.

Chad Bell (13) then burst the game open in the bottom of the seventh with a grand slam that scored Jeisson Rosario, Jesus Bastidas and Michael Beltre to increase the Somerset lead to 10-4.

The Fightin Phils drew closer in the top of the eighth as Vito Friscia (9) hit a two-run home run to narrow the gap to 10-6.

Reading added two more runs the following inning after Ortiz was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Logan O’Hoppe brought home Jonathan Guzman on a sacrifice fly for the 10-8 final.

Will Warren (6-2) struck out three batters and allowed four runs (three earned) through five innings to pick up the win. Noah Skirrow (4-6) suffered the loss after he allowed six earned runs across four innings. Carson

Coleman (7) earned the save with a scoreless 0.2 innings pitched.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, July 23 with a 7:05 pm game against the Fightin Phils at TD Bank Ballpark.
