PawSox Game Notes: July 4

A Happy 4^th of July - For the 10^th consecutive year the Pawtucket Red Sox will spend their 4^th of July holiday on the road as the PawSox play at Frontier Field in Rochester tonight at 7:05 pm in the opener of a 2-game set (and the continuation of a 4-game home and home series) against the Red Wings (AAA-Minnesota). Exactly one year ago, the PawSox played here in Rochester on July 4, 2017 and came up 5-3 losers. The Sox had also been in Rochester on the 4^th of July for three straight years from 2011-2013…losing in 2013 after back-to-back July 4^th victories in Rochester in 2011 & 2012. The PawSox played in Syracuse on July 4 in 2014 (3-2 winners in 10-innings) and 2015 (12-4 losers). The Sox won in Charlotte on July 4, 2016 by a 7-4 score. Pawtucket has not played a home game on July 4^th since the 2008 season when they beat Lehigh Valley, 7-6. The PawSox went undefeated on Independence Day during the decade of the 1990's going a perfect 10-0 during that span (8-0 at home and 2-0 on the road). The winning streak ended on July 4 of 2000 when the Sox lost to the then Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. During the past decade, the July 4^th holiday didn't provide as much rejoicing as the PawSox went 3-6 on July 4 from 2000-2010 (with one game postponed in Scranton/WB in 2009 due to poor field conditions). They are 4-4 this decade on the 4^th of July. By the way, next year's preliminary schedule has the PawSox in Lehigh Valley on July 4, 2019…after they host Scranton/WB on July 3, 2019.
Red Sox vs. Red Wings During the Holiday Week - Rochester swept the first half of this home and home holiday week series the past two nights at McCoy Stadium with the Red Wings rolling to a 6-2 victory on Monday and then holding on for a 2-1 win last night. The Red Wings have now won 7 of the 8 meetings with the PawSox this season while Pawtucket has lost 7 of their last 8 games overall since this past Tuesday.
