Pawtucket Red Sox RHP
Jockeying for Position - The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Syracuse Chiefs (AAA-Washington) - who are tied for 4th-place in the IL North - battle for positioning in the division when they open a 3-game series tonight at 6:35 pm at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse to begin a 7-game PawSox roadtrip. The Sox will face the Chiefs, who both come into action tonight with 28-32 records, over the next three nights (all at 6:35 pm). The PawSox were most recently tied for 4th-place with Syracuse this past Thursday and now again. The winner this evening could move into a tie for 3rd-place in the division pending Rochester's result at Scranton/WB (the Red Wings are presently 1-game up on the Sox and Chiefs).
Getting to Know You - Pawtucket is 1-3 this season vs. Syracuse after going 15-5 vs. the Chiefs last year. These clubs will meet 10 times over the next month or so…starting with this 3-game set in Syracuse, followed by a 3-game weekend series in Pawtucket from June 22-24 (which will be the first time the Chiefs come to McCoy Stadium this season), and then a 4-game series back in Pawtucket just after the All-Star break from July 12-15. Overall these two teams will face each other 18 times this season…11 in Syracuse and 7 in Pawtucket.
The Road Ahead - Pawtucket's 7-game trip will continue later in the week and through the weekend at Lehigh Valley. After Wednesday night's game in Syracuse, the Sox will head to Allentown, PA for a big 4-game series against 1st-place Lehigh Valley with games Thursday & Friday at 7:05 pm, Saturday at 6:35 pm, and Sunday at 1:35 pm. Pawtucket is off a week from tonight (Monday, June 18) for their final scheduled off-day until the All-Star break (July 9-11). The Sox will return to McCoy for a 7-game homestand in 6-nights one week from tomorrow (from June 19-24). The homestand begins with a make-up doubleheader vs. Buffalo on Tuesday, June 19 at 4:35 pm and, after that 4-game set vs. the Bisons (June 19-21), will conclude with a 3-game weekend set vs. these Syracuse Chiefs from June 22-24. Pawtucket is 17-16 at home this season compared to 11-16 on the road.
