MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 17, 2018) - Cory Abbott threw six shutout innings and Manuel Rondon fired the final three for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday as they blanked the Buies Creek Astros 1-0 from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. 
Abbott (4-5) whiffed nine Astros (69-52, 32-20) over his six innings while allowing just three hits and walking two for the Pelicans (55-68, 21-31). Rondon fired tossed innings, striking out five, to earn his first save since 2013.

The lone run was provided by Tyler Alamo when he doubled home Andruw Monasterio from first in the fourth inning.
The Pelicans and Astros meet for game two of the three-game set at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. Myrtle Beach sends LHP Bryan Hudson (6-9, 4.41) to the mound against Buies Creek starter RHP Peter Solomon (0-0, 0.00). Television coverage begins at 6 p.m. on The CW21 and MiLB.tv. Saturday is What If Night, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Myrtle Beach Macos jerseys giveaway presented by Comm Tech Security. In addition, the game is a Locals Appreciation Saturday, featuring $3 off tickets for fans with a local ID, as well as an Embrace a Veteran Saturday presented by Embrace Hospice. After the game, East Coast Pyrotechnics presents a fireworks extravaganza.
