Pelicans take second straight behind wild eighth inning

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 21, 2018) - In a wild ending, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans scored two runs in the eighth inning on Saturday night to cap a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Down East Wood Ducks from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.  
Trailing 4-3 to start off the eighth, Vimael Machin and Wladimir Galindo worked back-to-back walks for Myrtle Beach (5-12) against Down East (8-9) reliever Jacob Shortslef (0-1). After Galindo was pinch-run for by Chris Pieters , Daniel Spingola laid a bunt down the first base line. An error allowed both Machin and Pieters score to give the Pelicans a 5-4 lead. 

Armed with the lead, Wyatt Short struck out the side in the ninth to earn his first save.
Before having to retake the lead in the eighth, the Pelicans jumped out in front in the second inning. Following an Austin Upshaw single and a Connor Myers double, Aramis Ademan singled them both home to give Myrtle Beach a 2-0 lead.
Down East tied up the game with two runs in the fourth inning and took the lead 4-2 with two more in the sixth. 
The Birds fought back within a run in the sixth when Machin came home on a dropped fly ball in right-center field.
Ryan Kellogg (1-1) fired 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. Casey Bloomquist , Kellogg and Short combined to toss four more scoreless innings to increase the bullpen's consecutive scoreless innings streak to 13 frames. 
The final game of the four-game series against the Wood Ducks begins at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday. RHP Matt Swarmer (0-2, 2.79 ERA) is slated to start for Myrtle Beach while Down East will counter with LHP Christian Torres (1-1, 2.25 ERA).
