MARIETTA, Ga., - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced its Player of the Week for August 7 through 13. Blue Wahoos José López earns Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season, while Nick Senzel picks up his first Player of the Week honor.
In his seven-inning, complete game one-hitter on August 8, righty José López was near perfect. Giving up just the one hit, Lopez did not walk or hit a batter in the outing, pacing the Blue Wahoos to a 5-0 shutout victory over Mobile. After allowing his lone baserunner with one out in the second, the Cranbury, New Jersey native retired 17 straight batters to finish the game. Using 50 of his 79 pitches for strikes, Lopez fanned seven BayBears. The former Seton Hall Pirate led all starting pitchers with a miniscule 0.14 WHIP and .045 opponents' batting average.
Pensacola third baseball Nick Senzel crushed pitchers last week, cruising to his first weekly award. Over six games played, Senzel hit .522 while leading the league with 12 hits, six extra-base hits, 26 total bases, four homeruns, nine RBIs, a 1.130 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.690. Adding a stolen base to his tally, the University of Tennessee product produced top-ten numbers with seven runs, two doubles and a .560 on-base percentage. Recording four multi-hit efforts, his biggest performance of the week came on August 10 against division rival Mobile, where the Knoxville resident went 3-for-4 with three runs, a walk, a stolen base, two homeruns and four RBIs.
