(Reading, PA) - Phillies pitcher, and former Reading Fightin Phil, Ranger Suarez is set to make a rehab appearance in Reading this week. Suarez is slated to get the ball on Thursday, when the R-Phils take on the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 6:45 p.m. from FirstEnergy Stadium.

Suarez started the 2023 season on the injured list prior to the start of the season when he returned home from the World Baseball Classic early with a left elbow strain. The lefty was set to compete for Team Venezuela in March's World Baseball Classic. He has recently pitched live batting practice for the Phillies and is set to return to game action this week in Reading.

Suarez has been a mainstay in Philadelphia since the 2019 season. In 2022, he orchestrated perhaps his best season as a pro. Over 29 starts, Suarez went 10-7 with a 3.65 ERA. Additionally, he struck out 129 hitters over 155.1 innings pitched. Most notably, Suarez was a key piece of the Phillies pitching staff last October. Last postseason, he appeared in five games and had a 2-0 record with 1.23 ERA. Suarez also picked up a save, which came in Game Five of the National League Championship Series to send the Phillies to the World Series.

From 2018-2022, Suarez bounced back and forth between the Phillies bullpen and as a starter. He has appeared in 112 games with the Phillies, with 44 of them coming as a starting pitcher. While he started every regular season game last year, he made key relief appearances in the postseason.

Reading fans are familiar with Suarez, as he played for the Fightin Phils in 2018. Over 12 games that season, he went 4-3 with a 2.76 ERA. After signing with the Phillies as an International Free Agent in 2012, Suarez climbed through the Phillies systems, making stops at every Philadelphia Minor League Affiliate en route to the Majors, where he made his debut on July 26, 2018.
