FORT MYERS, FL – Caden Bogenpohl recorded two hits but was stranded on base in the ninth inning as the Clearwater Threshers (63-44, 23-18) fell 2-1 in the series opener against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (59-48, 22-20) on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium at Lee Health Sports Complex. The Threshers look to snap a three-game skid when they return for a Wednesday night rematch in Fort Myers.

After a scoreless top of the first inning, the Mighty Mussels drove in two runs in the home half of the frame to take an opening lead after the first. Caden Bogenpohl and Macon Winslow responded by trading doubles to lead off the second inning, with Bogenpohl scoring on Winslow’s double to cut the Mighty Mussels’ lead in half.

The Threshers had a number of chances after that second inning, putting their first two hitters on base in the second and third innings, as well as a Bogenpohl single to lead off the ninth. He advanced to second on a wild pitch but was unable to come around and score as the Threshers dropped the opener 2-1 in Fort Myers.

Brad Pacheco (6-7) surrendered two runs on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings to take the loss. Manuel Colon struck out one and retired all three batters he faced in 1.0 scoreless, hitless sixth inning. Brian Walters struck out two batters with one walk and one hit allowed in the final 2.0 scoreless frames
