Pivetta, Cozens Lead Pigs To 3-1 Victory

The IronPigs (30-14) got a two-run homer from Dylan Cozens and solid pitching from Nick Pivetta to defeat the Indianapolis Indians (24-19) 3-1 in front of 6,503 fans Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park. 

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Pigs outfielder Dylan Cozens drilled a two-run home run 388 feet to right-center field to give the Pigs a 2-1 lead after Jorge Alfaro was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. The home run for Cozens was his 12^th of the season.
The Pigs added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 3-1. After Cozens struck out to begin the frame, Rhys Hoskins walked then stole second and was advanced to third on a Nick Williams single to right. Taylor Featherston then drove a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hoskins to give the Pigs a 3-1 edge after six.
Pigs starter Nick Pivetta retired the first 10 batters he faced before surrendering back-to-back singles in the top of the fourth inning to Austin Meadows and Max Moroff. Meadows came around to score on an Elias Díaz RBI double to left field to put the Indians up early 1-0.
Pivetta then settled back into a grove as seven of his next batters, tossing seven innings allowing seven hits and just one earned run while striking out nine batters. The right-hander picked up his fourth win of the season with the Pigs, in his first start since being optioned by the Phillies.
Hoby Milner and Casey Fien shut down any potential Indians comeback as the duo combined for a scoreless inning before giving way to International League saves leader Pedro Beato in the ninth inning.
Beato then came on in the ninth to try to preserve a 3-1 IronPigs win. After Diaz popped out to second, Beato struck out Phil Gosselin and Eric Wood to end the game and notch his 14^th save of the season.
The three-game series continues with game two Wednesday at Coca-Cola Park with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Mark Appel (2-2, 6.69) will start for the Pigs, and the Indians will counter with right-hander Drew Hutchison (2-1, 3.74).
Wednesday's game will include a Youth Cap giveaway presented by AAA East Central to 1,500 fans 17 and under.
