Done and done.
Sky Carp starting pitcher Jared Poland was simply outstanding Friday night at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit’s 5-1 win over South Bend.
Poland pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits. Poland didn’t walk a batter while striking out four.
The only run the Cubs scratched across happened in the first inning. The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Sky Carp exploded for four runs.
Zach Zubia led off the frame with a single and went to third on a double by Joe Mack. Jorge Caballero followed with an RBI groundout, and Davis Bradshaw gave the Sky Carp a 2-1 lead, capping a 10-pitch at-bat with a base hit to chase Mack.
Osiris Johnson then followed with a 423-foot blast to make it 4-1 Beloit. It was the fourth homer of the season for Johnson. Jacob Berry capped the scoring with an RBI double.
The Sky Carp and Cubs will meet again Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. It’s Poopsie’s first birthday, and we’ll have plenty of area mascot friends to celebrate with us! We will also have the first of three post-game fireworks shows!
