Portland drops the opener to Akron 8-2 on Friday

Portland, Maine - The Akron RubberDucks (35-26) scored five times in the third inning and never looked back, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (21-38), 8-2, Friday night in front of 7,069 fans at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine - The Akron RubberDucks (35-26) scored five times in the third inning and never looked back, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (21-38), 8-2, Friday night in front of 7,069 fans at Hadlock Field.

Akron sent ten men to the plate in the third, scoring five times off Durin O'Linger (L, 0-1) and Daniel McGrath. O'Linger was called up from High-A Salem to make the spot-start for Teddy Stankiewicz (started today for Triple-A Pawtucket) and allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits over 2.1 innings pitched.
The RubberDucks scored a single run in the first two innings on RBI singles from Bobby Bradley and Andrew Calica.
During the third, Calica and Haggerty drew bases-loaded walks. Connor Marabell had a two-run single, and Bobby Bradley hit his 10th homer.
Portland scored in the sixth inning when Danny Mars (2-for-2) tripled and came home on a groundout by Chad De La Guerra. De La Guerra provided the second run with a fielder's choice in the eighth. 
Akron right-hander Dominic DeMasi (5-1) worked three innings on just one run to earn the win in relief. Aaron Civale made the start and worked four scoreless on two hits and two strikeouts.
Daniel McGrath pitched 2.2 innings on three hits and one run. Adam Lau fanned four over two scoreless.
Luke Tendler went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to six games.
The Sea Dogs and Akron RubberDucks (Indians affiliate) continue their three-game series on Saturday night at Hadlock Field. Righty Mike Shawaryn (2-5, 3.67) takes the mound for Portland against Akron righty Michael Peoples (1-1, 1.54). First pitch is 6:00 PM for the series opener.
