Senators Stage Big Ninth-Inning Rally but Come Up Short, Baysox Win 9-8

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Aug. 29, 2026) — The Senators trailed by six runs entering the bottom of the ninth but plated five runs and had the tying run on base. The Baysox held on and closed out a 9-8 win.

Chesapeake swatted four home runs off RHP Yoel Tejeda Jr. (L, 0-5) to build a big early lead.

Victor Figueroa hit a two-run homer in the first. Wehiwa Aloy followed with a two-run shot of his own in the fourth.

Dom Keegan hit a solo homer later in the fourth inning. In the same frame, Frederick Bencosme's two-out RBI single built a 6-0 lead.

Sam Brown answered with an opposite-field leadoff homer in the fourth to trail 6-1.

But Thomas Sosa hit a two-run homer in the fifth to lead 8-1.

Tejeda allowed eight runs on eight hits, three walks and one strikeout in 4.2 innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, after Devin Ortiz walked and Nick Mitchell singled, Devin Fitz-Gerald doubled to left-centerfield to score them both and cut the deficit to 8-3.

Chesapeake again answered in the next half-inning on Fernando Peguero's RBI double off RHP Robert Cranz. The Baysox led 9-3.

That score held until the bottom of the ninth.

RHP Joe Glassey tossed two scoreless innings in relief. He allowed a hit and struck out two.

RHP Luke Young retired the side in order in the ninth and struck out one.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Sens loaded the bases on a TJ White single, Cortland Lawson walk and Devin Ortiz single. Nick Mitchell drew a bases-loaded walk to trail 9-4.

Then Fitz-Gerald cleared the bases with another opposite-field double, scoring three to bring the deficit to 9-7.

Fitz-Gerald was still at second with two outs when Sam Brown singled through the right side of the infield to drive him in. The Senators trailed 9-8.

The comeback stopped there, though, and Chesapeake closed the 9-8 win.

The series finale comes Sunday at 1:00 p.m. LHP Alex Clemmey (4-6) is scheduled to start.
