The Pulaski Yankees (37-18) cruised past the Greeneville Astros (29-26) by a score of 11-3 on Saturday night at Calfee Park. The big inning came in the bottom of the 5th when the pinstripers tacked on five runs to put the game away.
Yankees starter Gilmael Troya (4-2) earned the win. In six innings pitched he gave up two earned runs on five hits while striking out nine. Juan Jimenez picked up his first save of the season after pitching the final three innings of the game. Jimenez gave up one earned run on three hits and one walk. Greeneville starter Maikel Sepulveda (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering two earned runs in three innings of work.
Eric Wagaman, Saul Torres, and Evan Alexander all finished with two hits. Torres had the big blow in the bottom of the 5th when he hit a grand slam to make it an 11-2 game. He finished with six RBI on the night, Frankeny Fernandez and Oscar Campos both had multi-hit nights for the Astros.
Pulaski drew first blood in the bottom of the first. Dario Unda singled to score Frederick Cuevas from 3rd to make it 1-0.
The Yankees added another in the bottom of the 2nd. Alexander sent a two out single into left and scored on an RBI double from Eduardo Torrealba that hit the base of the right centerfield wall.
Cuevas led off the bottom of the 3rd with a walk and came around to score after Jesus Bastidas blooped a double into right field to extend the Yankees' lead to 3-0. Bastidas scored later in the inning on a balk to make it 4-0.
Roman Garcia sent a two run homer over the leftfield wall in the top of the 4th to cut the Astros' deficit in half.
Pulaski responded in the bottom of the 4th by tacking on two runs. Torres singled up the middle to score Alexander and Torrealba give the Yankee's a 6-2 edge.
The Yankees added five more in the bottom of the 5th. With one out Yeison Corredera took off from 1st and Unda took off from 3rd on the throw to the 2nd base bag. Unda slid home safely to make it 7-2. Later in the inning Torres sent the first pitch he saw over the centerfield wall for a grand slam to give the Yankees an 11-2 advantage.
Fernandez doubled home Joan Mauricio in the top of the 8th make it 11-3.
Jimenez pitched a scoreless 9th and got Campos to ground into a game ending double play.
The Yankees head to Kingsport tomorrow for a three game series against the Mets.
