Quakes Rip Bumgarner in Rehab Start

San Jose, CA -Madison Bumgarner's first rehab assignment with the San Jose Giants will be one to be remembered...by the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Rancho offense ripped the Giants' left-hander for nine runs over four innings, destroying San Jose by a final of 14-1 on Wednesday night.
A sold-out crowd of 4,444 at Municpal Stadium saw the three-time World Champion and former World Series MVP get sacked for nine runs on nine hits, including eight in the fourth inning alone. Ibandel Isabel, Drew Jackson and DJ Peters all went deep against Bumgarner, with Peters going yard twice...in the same inning.
Tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Peters led off with his league-leading 17th of the year, a shot to left field that was estimated to travel 474 feet, giving the Quakes the lead for good at 2-1. Two batters later, Luke Raley tripled off the center-field wall, then scored on an Isabel single, making it 3-1. Two batters later, Jackson blasted a three-run homer to left, giving the Quakes a 6-1 advantage. Will Smith doubled home a run with two outs, bringing Peters to the plate for the second time in the inning. Peters delivered yet again, this time with a two-run shot to left field off Bumgarner (0-1) for a 9-1 lead. 
The Quakes poured it on the San Jose bullpen, scoring twice in the fifth and two more in the seventh against David Owen, giving them a 13-1 advantage.
Johan Mieses hit the Quakes' fifth homer of the night and his fourth round-tripper since joining Rancho last week, giving the Quakes a season-high 14 runs and a 14-1 lead in the eighth.
Omar Estevez, who finished the game with two hits, singled in the ninth, tying Rancho's season-high for hits in a game with 17.
The 13-run margin of victory is also the largest of the year for Rancho, who has now won eight of ten games on the road in the second half of the season.
Overshadowed by the offense was starter Caleb Ferguson, who quietly won his fourth straight start. Ferguson (5-4) allowed just one run on four hits over six strong innings, fanning five hitters while yielding just one walk.
The Quakes (9-5, 45-39) look for the three-game sweep on Thursday night, in the final game of the three-game series in San Jose. Dennis Santana (5-5) will be opposed by Giants' right-hander Jake McCasland (3-8) with first pitch slated for 7:00pm.  
On Wednesday, July 12th, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for a four-game set against the San Jose Giants. Next Wednesday will be a Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as dogs are invited to the ballpark, with Pet Passes costing just $3 and the proceeds benefitting the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter.
