Lake Elsinore, CA-The Quakes were unable to score a run on Lake Elsinore starting pitcher Adrian Morejon Wednesday night and were shut out for the second time this season, as the Storm evened the series with a 1-0 victory.
Morejon hurled seven scoreless innings while striking out a season-high seven Quakes hitters before the offense positioned him for the victory in the home-half of the seventh inning.
Rancho reliever Jason Richman loaded the bases in the seventh and Kelvin Melean came home to score on a passed ball to give Lake Elsinore the outright 1-0 lead.
The Quakes were unable to back starting pitcher Dustin May, who was strong in his second start of the season, not allowing a run and striking out a season-high nine over five innings.
Rancho's best chance to score came in the fifth inning with runners on the corners and two outs, but Cody Thomas would ground out to first to end the frame.
Rancho went in order in the ninth, as Storm reliever Trevor Megill earned his first save of the year.
Richman (1-2), who allowed the unearned run in the seventh inning, was tacked with his first loss of the season.
