CLINTON, IA (July 28, 2017) - Yojhan Quevedo, for the fourth time this season, was the walk-off hero for the Clinton LumberKings in a 6-5 10 inning win over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday night at Ashford University Field. Quevedo lined the game winning hit over River Bandits (21-13, 58-44) centerfielder Daz Cameron with two out in the 10th to give the LumberKings (14-20, 45-56) the series win.
Quad Cities raced out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. LumberKings starter Steven Ridings, making his home debut, gave up three straight hits to start the game. Chuckie Robinson chased home the game's first run with a double to left.
In the bottom of the first inning, Clinton tied and then took the lead. Eight LumberKings came to the plate in the inning to score two runs. Nick Zammarelli III collected the first of his four hits to bring home Bryson Brigman with an RBI single to left. Dimas Ojeda gave the LumberKings their first lead of the night when he drew a bases loaded walk against River Bandits starter Cristian Javier.
The game then see-sawed back and forth. Quad Cites tied the game in the second and Clinton reclaimed their lead in the bottom of the third on a Gareth Morgan two-run home run, his 10th of the season.
The River Bandits took their second and final lead of the night in the top of the fifth inning. Robinson led-off with his second double of the game and eventually scored on a Cameron RBI ground out. Troy Sieber worked a walk for Quad Cities who then jumped ahead on an Abraham Torro-Hernandez two-run home run over the Lumber Lounge in right, his second of the series.
In the bottom of the inning, Clinton tied the game when they loaded the bases with three straight singles. Jhombeyker Morales then lifted a sacrifice fly to right that brought home Zammarelli for the game's tying run.
The game remained tied into the 10th inning. Seth Elledge (1-0) threw the final two innings for Clinton to earn his first professional career win. He allowed no runs on one hit while striking out a professional career-high five batters.
In the bottom of the 10th Clinton loaded the bases for the third time of the night. Devon Carr, in his first inning of relief for Quad Cities, surrendered singles to Jhombeyker Morales and Luis Rengifo before intentionally walking Brigman to load the baes. With only one out the River Bandits brought their infield in, but Carr (0-1) struck out Joe Rizzo for the second out of the inning. Quevedo followed and quickly fell behind 0-2. On the fourth pitch of the at-bat he lined a ball deep into right center field that Cameron could not reach, scoring Morales for the game winning run.
The walk-off win was the fifth of the season for the LumberKings and the fourth from Quevedo. The win gave the LumberKings their third straight home series win.
Clinton will now begin a seven-game road trip with the first of four games against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The LumberKings will throw left-handed pitcher Nick Wells (4-7, 6.50) against Kernels right-handed pitcher Clark Beeker (9-3, 2.51). Game time is slated for 6:35 PM (C.D.T.) with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI beginning at 6:20 PM, Erik Oas will be on the call.
