Quiroz homers twice in 12-4 loss at Reading

Reading, Pa. - The Reading Fightin Phils (3-4) pounded out 16 hits and took the series from the Portland Sea Dogs (1-5), 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium. Portland dropped two of three and five of six on their opening trip of the season.

Each side hit three homers, as Esteban Quiroz produced Portland's first multi-homer game of the season. Reading catcher, Deivi Grullon went deep twice. 
Harold Arauz (1-0) worked six innings on five hits, four runs, and eight strikeouts to earn the win. Teddy Stankiewicz (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
Portland took a 1-0 lead with two outs in the first inning as Quiroz connected on a homer (#2) to dead-center. Reading responded with a run on a single by Kyle Martin.
Both teams lit up the scoreboard in the third inning. Cole Sturgeon hit a two-out homer to right field, but Reading took a 3-2 lead in their half of the third. Damek Tomscha tied the game with an infield-RBI single and Martin delivered a sac-fly.
Reading added four runs in the fifth inning off Stankiewicz (0-2). Tomscha hit a two-run homer. Jan Herandez and Corneilius Randolph added RBIs. 
The Fightins built a 7-2 lead, but Quiroz hit a two-run homer in the fifth, cutting the Reading lead. Portland would not score again, as Reading received two homers late in the game by Grullon.
Portland is off on Thursday and opens up their 25th season at Hadlock Field on Friday, April 13th vs. Binghamton.
