Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning, and only the rain slowed down the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in a 9-2 victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Wednesday night.
Aaron Brooks (5-3) picked up the win after he struck out three while allowing two runs and seven hits over five innings. He was credited with a complete game when heavy rain and lightning moved into the area during the bottom of the fifth.
After Colorado Springs took a 4-0 lead in the third when Christian Bethancourt scored on a ground out, the Baby Cakes cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Eric Campbell scored on a ground out and Cristhian Adames hit an RBI single.
The Sky Sox answered with five runs in the fifth against 'Cakes starter Zac Gallen (4-4), who was charged with all nine runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Jake Hager collected a pair of doubles and drove in four runs, while Taylor added a triple to his home run. Each player in the Sky Sox lineup, including Brooks, had at least one hit.
The Baby Cakes have lost each of their last four road games heading into the second of the five-game set in Colorado Springs on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m.
