Rain Shortens CT Tigers 7-1 Loss at Hudson Valley

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - 2018 Detroit Tigers draftee Dayton Dugas singled in his first at-bat with the Connecticut Tigers (2-8) but rainstorms erased any comeback bid by the Tigers as the Hudson Valley Renegades (7-3) took a 7-1 win in seven innings at Dutchess Stadium on Sunday.
The Tigers lost their eighth game in a row to match the franchise record for consecutive defeats set with eight straight losses from July 21-28, 2016.
Dugas, the Wichita State alum drafted in the 16th round by Detroit during the MLB First-Year Player Draft earlier this month, joined Connecticut on Sunday after beginning his professional career with four games for Gulf Coast League Tigers West. Dugas jumped right into the Connecticut starting lineup as the left fielder batting sixth and lined a single to left against Hudson Valley starter Blake Pflughaupt (Win, 1-0) in the second. Dugas finished 1-for-3 at the plate.  
Tigers starting pitcher Carlos Guzman (Loss, 0-1) allowed three runs in the third inning including a two-run triple by Renegades leadoff hitter Michael Smith. Guzman left after four innings and Australian Jack O'Loughlin followed his four-inning, no-hit American debut on June 19 with a four-run sixth inning against Hudson Valley to put the game out of reach.
Teddy Hoffman drove in Connecticut's lone run on a fifth-inning RBI double. The Tigers grounded into two double plays and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
Following a 20-minute weather delay to start the game, rainstorms appeared again in the middle of the seventh inning. Umpires Matt Whipple and Steven Rios sent both teams to their respective clubhouses and following a lengthy delay, the game was officially called.
The series resumes Monday at 7:05 p.m. with Connecticut right-handed starter Carson Lance (1-0, 2.70) going to the mound against Renegades righty Easton McGee (1-0, 4.50). Following the series finale at Hudson Valley on Tuesday and a league-wide off day Wednesday, the Tigers return home to Dodd Stadium for a three-game homestand against the Staten Island Yankees featuring Throwback Thursday, Fireworks Friday, and a CT Tigers Phone Grip giveaway on Saturday.
