Rainiers Defeat Baby Cakes 4-2 To Snap Winless Streak

METAIRIE, La. - A terrific start from Bryan Evans and a few key hits on offense lifted the Tacoma Rainiers (52-53) to a 4-2 victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (49-56) Friday night at Shrine on Airline in Metairie.
Evans (3-1) allowed just one run across 6.1 innings and struck out five New Orleans hitters. He only gave up four hits and tossed 67 of his 99 total pitches for strikes while earning his third victory of the season.

Third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean paced the Tacoma offense by going 2-for-3 with a run scored, two singles and a walk. First baseman Cameron Perkins (1x4, R, HR, RBI), shortstop Zach Vincej (2x3, BB) and second baseman Adam Law (2x4, R, 2B) also fueled the Rainiers lineup during the victory.
Right-hander Tyler Higgins (1.0) allowed just his second earned run of the season while managing a hold, his sixth, and two strikeouts. Righties Ryan Cook (0.2) and Shawn Armstrong (1.0) then combined to keep the Baby Cakes off the board during the final 1.2 innings with Armstrong earning his team-leading tenth save of the season.
The Rainiers and Baby Cakes return to action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for game two of the current four game series. Right-hander Zac Gallen (6-5, 3.80) will get the start for New Orleans and Tacoma has yet to name a starter.
