Rainiers Overcome Four-Run Deficit to Secure Series Victory in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 9, 2026) — It had been four years since the Tacoma Rainiers (16-23/49-65) had won a series in Las Vegas, but that streak was snapped on Sunday night with an 8-5 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators (20-19/64-48) at Las Vegas Ballpark. After falling behind 4-0,

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 9, 2026) — It had been four years since the Tacoma Rainiers (16-23/49-65) had won a series in Las Vegas, but that streak was snapped on Sunday night with an 8-5 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators (20-19/64-48) at Las Vegas Ballpark. After falling behind 4-0, the Rainiers rattled off eight unanswered runs as Patrick Wisdom, Michael Arroyo and Brock Rodden all homered in the win. Ryan Bliss also tied Tacoma's career franchise stolen base record with his 94th steal with Tacoma in the ninth inning. The Rainiers bullpen fired 5.0 innings of one-run relief to hang on for the victory.

Las Vegas got off to a quick start on Sunday night. Michael Stefanic (6) led off the home half of the first inning with a home run to left field, just the second leadoff home run allowed by Tacoma all season, giving Las Vegas a 1-0 lead.

The Aviators added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Darell Hernaiz ripped a leadoff single through the left side of the infield and stole second base with one out. After Joey Meneses worked a walk, Brayan Buelvas doubled home a run to make it 2-0. With two outs, Carson Fulmer walked Chad Wallach, but ball four got away from the catcher Jakson Reetz, allowing Meneses to score on the wild pitch. Jack Winkler drove in Las Vegas’ third run of the inning with a line drive to left field, making it 4-0 Aviators after three innings.

Tacoma started to claw back in the top of the fourth inning. Ryan Bliss was hit by the second pitch of the inning, marking Tacoma’s first baserunner. Bliss advanced to second base on a groundout and scored on an RBI double from Michael Arroyo to get Tacoma on the board at 4-1. Patrick Wisdom (31) followed with a two-run blast to straightaway center field, getting the Rainiers within a run, 4-3.

The Rainiers rallied for three more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. With one out, Arroyo (6) clubbed a solo home run to center field, knotting the game at four. After the second out of the inning, Lazaro Montes lined a single into center field and scored on a Connor Joe double into the right field corner, putting Tacoma on top, 5-4. Stuart Fairchild kept the momentum going as he dropped a single into right field to score Joe, giving Tacoma a 6-4 lead.

Reid VanScoter kept Tacoma in front, throwing 2.0 hitless innings of relief, covering the sixth and seventh innings. The left-hander worked around a leadoff walk in the sixth inning, erasing it with a double play, as he retired his final five batters.

The Rainiers added some insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Bliss hit a leadoff single and stole second base, the 94th of his Rainiers career, tying Samad Taylor for the most in franchise history. Brock Rodden (19) pounded a two-run home run to right field, building up Tacoma’s lead to 8-4.

Tacoma called upon Domingo González to close out the ninth inning. The right-hander worked around a bases-loaded jam, allowing just one run to score on a sacrifice fly, hanging on for the 8-5 victory and securing the series win.

The Rainiers return home to Cheney Stadium on Tuesday, August 11, for a 12:05 PM first pitch against the Reno Aces.

POSTGAME NOTES:

  • Tacoma’s win on Sunday night marked their third road series win of the season, and first since April 21-26 at Oklahoma City…it was Tacoma’s first series win at Las Vegas since September 13-18, 2022…the series victory marks the first time Tacoma finished a season with a winning record in Las Vegas since going 7-5 in 2021.
  • The Rainiers connected on three more home runs on Sunday night, giving them 41 against Las Vegas this season, the second most for a Triple-A team against one opponent this season, trailing only the 50 that Albuquerque hit against El Paso…it’s the fourth-most home runs Tacoma has hit against one opponent in a single season since 2005.
  • INF Patrick Wisdom tied his career-high with his 31st home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning on Sunday night…Wisdom is the seventh player in franchise history to hit at least 31 home runs in a single season, most recently done by Jason Vosler in 2024…Wisdom’s nine home runs against Las Vegas are the most for a Triple-A hitter against a single opponent this season and the most for a Rainiers hitter against one opponent in a single season since at least 2005, surpassing the eight home runs Tyler Locklear hit against Round Rock in 2025.
  • INF/OF Michael Arroyo slugged his sixth home run with Tacoma on Sunday night, his 16th home run overall this year, as part of a 2-for-4 night with a double, home run two RBI and two runs scored…Arroyo went 2-for-3 against the left-handed starter Ryan Magdic, improving his Triple-A batting average against southpaws to .500 (18x36)…his 18 hits against left-handers since his Triple-A debut on July 7 are the most in the minor leagues.
