Rainiers Score 11 Runs In 9th Inning, Top Grizzlies 13-0

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (3-3) collected a 13-0 shutout victory over the Fresno Grizzlies (3-3) on Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park.
The majority of the game saw the Rainiers and Grizzlies locked in a pitcher's duel, with Tacoma starter Christian Bergman posting 7.0 scoreless innings and Fresno starter Mike Hauschild going six scoreless. The two starting pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts and allowed just seven hits.

The Rainiers finally broke through in the top of the seventh inning. Right fielder John Andreoli singled to open the frame and third baseman Danny Muno followed with a walk, setting up an opposite field RBI single from Matt Hague that gave Tacoma a 1-0 edge. Rehabbing left fielder Ben Gamel followed with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Muno from third and doubled the Rainiers lead to 2-0.
Tacoma blew the contest wide open with an 11-run top of the ninth inning. It was the Rainiers first inning with 10 or more runs scored since June 28, 2006 at Las Vegas. Tacoma sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the ninth and scored 11 runs off just five hits, at one point drawing five consecutive bases-loaded walks.
Four Rainiers batters finished the night with multiple hits, including Gamel (2x4, R, 4 RBI, BB), Andreoli (2x4, 3 R, 2B, BB), first baseman Matt Hague (2x4, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB), and center fielder Ian Miller (2x4, R, 2B, RBI, BB). Overall, Tacoma's lineup drew 11 walks, eight of which came in the ninth inning, and struck for 10 base hits.
The series continues for Tacoma and Fresno with a 6:35 p.m. PT first pitch in game two on Wednesday night. The Rainiers will start left-hander Aríel Miranda (0-0, -.--) while the Grizzlies hand the ball to right-hander Trent Thornton (0-1, 0.00).
