Rays Acquire Tristan Gray from White Sox

2-time Triple-A National Champion has hit 71 homers in 331 career games with Durham

The Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday announced that they have acquired 2021-23 Durham Bulls infielder Tristan Gray from the Chicago White Sox, in exchange for cash considerations. The Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday announced that they have acquired 2021-23 Durham Bulls infielder Tristan Gray from the Chicago White Sox, in exchange for cash considerations. In a corresponding move, infielder Coco Montes has been designated for assignment. He is expected to join the Rays in Cincinnati.

Over 331 career contests with the Bulls from 2021-23, Gray compiled a .233 average (274-1174), adding 179 runs, 59 doubles, five triples, 71 homers and 220 RBI. He was a part of two Triple-A National Championship winning squads, including a mammoth three-run homer in the ninth inning of the 2022 Triple-A National Championship Game in Las Vegas. His 71 longballs are the second-most by a Bulls player in franchise history, behind only 2007-10 infielder Chris Richard (84).

In 72 games with Charlotte this year, Gray has posted a .270 average (67-248), adding 40 runs, 15 doubles, four triples, nine homers and 44 RBI, adding an .805 OPS. Across 17 career Major League contests between Tampa Bay (2023), Miami (2024), and Oakland (2024), Gray owns a .152 clip (5-33), adding one run, one double, one homer and one RBI.

Montes in 68 games with Durham this year has accumulated a .221 average (56-253), adding 27 runs, 13 doubles, six homers and 26 RBI. He appeared in five games contests with the Rays this year, tallying a .200 mark (2-10) with one RBI. He was signed by Tampa Bay as a minor league free agent on January 3, 2025.
