Reading Rains on Portland's Parade in 10-3 Loss

Portland, Maine - Rain stymied the Portland Sea Dogs (25-26)(60-59) on Sunday afternoon as they fell 10-3 to the Reading Fightin Phils (29-21)(60-59) in a game shortened due to weather.

Henry Godbout and Miguel Bleis hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning, as the Sea Dogs jumped out in front 2-0.

RHP Morgan McSweeney began the game with three perfect innings, before giving up three runs on four hits, including a Carson DeMartini bases-clearing triple in the fourth inning.

Trailing 3-2, the Sea Dogs loaded the bases with no one out, ultimately bringing the tying run home with a Tyler McDonough groundout.

RHP Steven Brooks came out of the bullpen in the fifth inning and walked five batters, allowing two runs to score.

The Sea Dogs were not able to make up the 5-2 deficit in the fifth or sixth innings.

In the top of the seventh, the rain started pouring down. RHP Caleb Bolden got hammered with two singles, two doubles and a walk before he was pulled for RHP Cooper Adams. One more run scored on a Ware sacrifice fly, before Adams was able to finish the side with a strikeout. By that point, Reading led 10-3. The rain continued to pick up, and the game went into a delay. It was later called for weather, and the score went final.

RHP Luke Russo (10-8, 4.61 ERA) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched. RHP Steven Brooks (0-1, 5.59 ERA) was handed the loss, allowing two runs on no hits and five walks with one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched.

The Sea Dogs go on the road for a two week trip against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (26-23)(69-48) and the Chesapeake Bay Sox (27-22) (56-61). Tuesday’s game in Richmond is scheduled for a 7:05 pm first pitch at CarMax Park. Starters for both sides will be announced in the coming days.
