Reading wins a pair over the 'Dogs 7-1 and 6-5

Portland, Maine -The Reading Fightin Phils (29-40) swept both sides of a Tuesday night doubleheader over the Sea Dogs (26-43) at Hadlock Field. Reading won game one 7-1 and took game two 6-5.

Game 1 Recap
The FIghtins scored two runs off of Mike Shawaryn (L, 3-7) and added five more in the top of the seventh off of Shawaryn and Trevor Kelley and cruised to a 7-1 win in game one.
Darick Hall hit an RBI single three batters in to score Cord Sandberg and put Reading ahead 1-0 early. Jan Hernandez scored on a wild pitch later in the frame to extend the lead to 2-0.
Ranger Suárez (3-3) worked a complete game in the victory for Reading. The lefty allowed just one run on five hits while walking two and striking out five.
Hall finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Austin Bossart had two hits and two RBIs. Sandberg also had two hits and a pair of runs scored.
Shawaryn allowed six runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings. He walked three and fanned four.
Portland scored their lone run on an RBI single by Chad De La Guerra with two outs in the fifth.
Game 2 Recap

Zach Green broke a 5-5 tie with his 11th home run of the season and the Fightin Phils completed the doubleheader sweep with a 6-5 win in game two.
Just like in game one, the Fightins scored three batters into the game. After Jiandido Tromp led off with a double and advanced to third on a groundout, Austin Listi hit a sac fly to give Reading the 1-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs answered quickly - after Danny Mars tripled to lead off the bottom of the first, Chad De La Guerra drove him in on a groundout to tie the game 1-1.
Portland took the lead on back-to-back doubles by Johnny Bladel and Luke Tendler in the second, but this time Reading equalized the score on an RBI single by Jan Hernandez in the third to make it 2-2.
Portland took the lead back with three runs in the bottom of the third, the final two scoring on a bases-loaded single by Jordan Betts to make it 5-2. Luke Tendler tried to score from first on the play but was thrown out at home plate by Tromp from right field. Tendler had previously been thrown out at home by left fielder Cord Sandberg earlier in the ballgame.
Reading tied things up with a three-run inning of their own in the fifth which featured RBI infield singles from Tromp and Listi as well as an RBI single by Darick Hall.
Both starting pitchers were making spot starts. Daniel McGrath went three innings for Portland and allowed two runs on three hits. Luke Leftwich allowed four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.
Alexis Rivero went 2.1 scoreless innings of relief on one hit. Tyler Gilbert closed out the game with two perfect innings to earn the save (2).
The Sea Dogs and Fightins play game three of their series on Wednesday night with a 7:00 PM start at Hadlock Field. Lefty Dedgar Jimenez (2-5, 5.32) makes his 12th start of the year against Reading's RHP Harold Arauz (3-4, 5.17).
