The Arizona Fall League wrapped Saturday as Peoria topped Mesa 8-2 in the championship at Scottsdale Stadium. Though the Cubs prospects could not capture the title, several had production worth noting.

The Arizona Fall League wrapped Saturday as Peoria topped Mesa 8-2 in the championship at Scottsdale Stadium. Though the Cubs prospects could not capture the title, several had production worth noting.

Adbert Alzolay, RHP - 7G, 0-1, 6.17 ERA, 11.2 IP, 11H, 8R, 8ER, 3HR, 3BB, 13K
Alzolay's final AFL line is misleading as the 22-year-old narrowly missed brilliance in his campaign. Six of Alzolay's eight earned runs came in a single outing on Oct. 31. The righty lasted just 0.2 innings, giving up six hits, three of them home runs. Excluding this outing, Alzolay allowed just two runs over 11.0 innings, posting a 1.64 ERA. Alzolay was named to the AFL Stars Game.
Pedro Araujo, RHP - 9G, 0-0, 1.74 ERA, 10.1 IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, HR, 2BB, 15K
Araujo allowed runs in just two of nine outings for the Solar Sox, racking up 15 strikeouts through 10.1 innings on the way. His 13.07 strikeouts-per-nine-innings mark was the fifth best in the league among relievers (10.0+IP).
Alec Mills, RHP - 6G, 6GS, 1-3, 3.91 ERA, 23.0 IP, 26H, 10R, 10ER, HR, 6BB, 20K
Mills made just a handful of starts due to injury in 2017, reporting to the Fall League to log innings and return to pre-injury form. Mills allowed four earned runs through 3.0 innings in his first start (12.00 ERA), before giving up six runs through his remaining five outings and posting a 2.70 ERA through that stretch.
Jake Stinnett, RHP - 7G, 0-0, 1.80 ERA, 10.0 IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 14K
Stinnett was also plagued by injury in 2017, appearing in just 14 regular season games and pitching in relief for the first time in his career. The 25-year-old shone in the AFL, earning a spot in the Stars Games. He blanked his opponents in all but one outing throughout the campaign, rendering them hitless five times.
Ian Rice, C - 13G, .311 (14-for-45), 5R, 7 2B, 7RBI, 7BB, 11K
Rice put together a solid Fall League campaign, batting .311 through 13 games. The catcher collected a .415 on-base percentage with the help of seven walks, while hitting for an .882 OPS.
David Bote, INF - 19G, .333 (23-for-69), 2 2B, 4HR, 14RBI, 5BB, 14K
Bote got off to a sweltering start in the AFL, batting .500 (8-for-16) with three home runs through the first week on his way to Player of the Week honors. This was part of a seven-game hitting streak that had the 24-year-old batting 14-for-26 (.538) to kick off the season. His bat cooled as the season went along, but Bote still posted a .333 batting average and a .931 OPS. Bote was named an AFL Rising Star.
Jason Vosler, INF - 32G, .210 (17-for-81), 4 2B, 2HR, 13RBI, 12BB, 24K
Though Vosler's batting average hovered just above the Mendoza Line, the outfielder supplemented his effort with 13 RBI and 12 walks - tied for the fourth-most free bases in the AFL. A bright spot for Vosler came Oct. 18-20 when the third-baseman collected seven RBI through three games.
Charcer Burks, OF - 18G, .236 (17-for-72), 12R, 7RBI, 8BB, 19K
Burks hit .307 (11-for-36) through his first nine games - including a six-game hitting streak - but ran into a skid, managing six hits through his next 36 at-bats (.167). He uncharacteristically struggled against right-handers, batting just .196 (3-for-46), while hitting .308 (8-for-26) off lefties.
LOOKING AHEAD
Both Alec Mills and David Bote have already logged time in an Iowa uniform. Mills will likely return to Iowa to begin 2018 as a starter. The other six in this group all spent time with Double-A Tennessee in 2017.
Adbert Alzolay is the Cubs' No. 3 prospect, according to MLB.com. In seven starts with the Smokies, the 22-year-old went 0-3 with a 3.03 ERA (11ER/32.2IP), 12 walks and 30 strikeouts in 2017. Alzolay could get a look at Iowa's starting rotation some time in 2018.
Though Jake Stinnett missed the majority of 2018 due to injury, he allowed just one earned run over 14.2 innings (9G) with the Smokies in 2017. A second-round draft pick by the Cubs in 2014, he is a candidate to make a quick rise to Iowa in 2018.
