SALEM, Virginia (May 1, 2019): Enmanuel DeJesus held the Mudcats hitless through 4 2/3 innings, sending his Red Sox to an 8-5 victory over Carolina Wednesday afternoon at Haley Toyota Field.

How it Happened
* Ryan Fitzgerald came out swinging in the first and drove in Marco Hernández and Pedro Castellanos with a 2-run double. Fitzgerald came around to score on a Victor Acosta single and the Red Sox took a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
* Carolina recorded its first hit in the 5th when Devin Hairston knocked a 2-out single. Joantgel Segovia broke up the shutout, scoring Hairston with a double, still trailing Salem 3-1.
* The Red Sox answered in the bottom of the frame as Acosta drove in two more runs with a double to pull ahead 5-1 after five innings.
* Dylan Hardy drew a 2-out walk to kick-off another Salem attack in the bottom of the 6th. Jarren Duran singled and Hernandez reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases. Fitzgerald delivered two home with a single, amassing 4 RBI and pushing the Sox ahead 8-1.
* The Mudcats made one last push in the 7th, connecting four consecutive knocks or four runs to cut the lead 8-5.
* Hunter Smith and Dominic LoBrutto shut down the 8th and 9th innings, ending both frames with back-to-back strikeouts to clinch the Red sox' first win of the series, 8-5.
