Maddox, 26, has not allowed a run or walked a batter in three appearances over two major league stints this season, the first of his career. The right-hander has surrendered three hits with one strikeout in 3.2 innings, most recently tossing 1.2 scoreless frames in the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on July 16. He is 2-3 with five saves and a 3.20 ERA (14 ER/39.1 IP) over 29 games between Double-A Portland and Pawtucket this season, having thrown a perfect seventh inning for the PawSox last night at Indianapolis. In six professional seasons since being selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2012 June Draft, Maddox is 13-18 with 22 saves, a 4.37 ERA (122 ER/251.1 IP), and 215 strikeouts over 135 minor league games, including 13 starts.
Scott, 27, appeared in each of the Red Sox' three games against the Kansas City Royals this past weekend, recording two strikeouts and allowing two hits without walking a batter in 2.2 scoreless innings. The left-hander made his first career Opening Day roster in 2017, and in two major league stints he has appeared in 41 games, tied for the most among American League rookie pitchers. He has posted a 3.38 ERA (10 ER/26.2 IP) and a 1.05 WHIP at the major league level while holding opponents to a .194 batting average, recording 20 strikeouts against 10 walks.
