Reinisch extends on-base streak to 38 games in 13-5 loss

MIDLAND, Mich. – Jake Reinisch went 2-for-3 with two singles and two walks, extending his team-high on-base streak to 38 games, though the Lansing Lugnuts (24-34, 53-69) lost to the Great Lakes Loons (35-23, 71-51), 13-5, on Saturday night at Dow Diamond.

The Lugnuts have lost the first five games of the series, leaving the Nuts with a 19-45 record on the road – the worst road record in franchise history. One road game remains in the 2026 season, followed by a six-day, seven-game homestand.

The bright spot was designated hitter Reinisch, signed out of independent baseball earlier in the season, who has put together the fourth longest on-base streak in High-A dating back to July 5.

Breyson Guedez added RBI singles in the first and the ninth innings for Lansing, which also received the benefit of five Reynaldo Yean walks in the sixth inning. Yean, who has touched 103 mph, has now walked 61 batters in 32 1/3 innings for Great Lakes this season.

But the Loons’ offense was overwhelming, scoring nine runs against Lansing starter Jorge Marcheco in four innings-plus, then tacking on three runs against Darlin Pinales in 1 2/3 innings and one more run against Gerlin Rosario in 2 1/3 innings. A Mairo Martinus three-run homer in the first and a Chuck Davalan two-run homer in the fourth marked the biggest blows.

A steady rain began to fall midway through the game and continued long after the game ended, but play was never halted.

Right-hander Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang makes an MiLB rehab start for Lansing in the 1:05 p.m. Sunday finale. He is expected to work two innings and then be followed to the mound by lefty Tucker Novotny.
